AMETIS BASSIR, LPC, CRC
Ametis is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and earned her master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, with a concentration in substance use & psychiatric disorders, from The George Washington University. Ametis completed her training dually at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and university counseling center where she worked primarily with young adults (18-30) and adults (30+) struggling with chronic illness, anxiety, phase of life transitions, relationship issues and career development. She has worked at Eating Recovery Center Houston with clients diagnosed with eating disorders, often co-occuring with complex psychiatric disorders, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma and/or substance use.
Ametis takes a humanistic approach to therapy. By focusing in the present, she believes clients have the answers deep beneath the many layers of their being. She believes it is there that healing begins, bringing clients closer to embodying their authentic selves. She uses an eclectic mix of modalities including person-centered therapy, interpersonal therapy, experiential, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic therapy to help clients in the individual, group, couple and family settings.
Ametis wholeheartedly believes trust, genuineness and a strong therapeutic alliance are the foundation for where change can take place, to uncover systems of client’s lives that no longer serve them while incorporating more effective methods towards meeting their needs. Ametis has a warm, multi-dimensional personality and believes in the healing power of humor. She provides a welcoming and nonjudgemental environment for all clients including members of the LGBT+ community. She is passionate about working with clients struggling with eating disorders, mental health issues, trauma, personality disorders and struggles with relationships.
