JACKIE PERIN, LPC-I
Jackie Perin holds a Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Tx and is a Licensed Professional Counseling Intern at The Lovett Center. She works with adults, couples, families and facilitates process group for the Pathos Professional Intensive Outpatient Program.
Jackie has always been drawn to helping people in need, both physically and psychologically. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the University of Texas – Austin and an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from San Jacinto College. Jackie became a registered nurse in 1992 and spent over twenty years focusing on patients with chronic cardiovascular diseases. During this time, she spent a decade at Johnson and Johnson working on clinical trials with adult derived stem cells for the treatment of end stage congestive heart failure. In addition, she worked with several biotechnology companies that were utilizing various stem cell types for the treatment of heart disease and orthopedic injuries. Through this work she became acutely aware of the mental health issues facing those with chronic illness which prompted her to seek additional training in counseling.
Jackie came to The Lovett Center as a student intern and stayed on after graduation to continue working with a vast array of clients. Jackie’s philosophy is that client’s need unconditional positive regard in order to develop trust and she works to create a strong therapeutic alliance. She aims to meet clients where they are at when they seek treatment and utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches that help to relieve their distress and create more adaptive thinking and coping skills. She is especially interested in psychodynamic approaches and will begin a fellowship at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in August of 2020.
