Zack Coapland, LMSW
Group Leader | Post Graduate Fellow | Clinician at Ethos Wellness Lovett
Zack comes to Ethos after a successful career serving in various roles such as Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Success at Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, University of Houston, University of South Carolina, and Lone Star College. He holds a Master of Education in Student Personnel Services and a PhD in Higher Education Administration. Within those roles, Zack enjoyed providing guidance to students and their families as they transitioned through the higher education system, explored different career opportunities, navigated their new found independence and embarked on their journey into adulthood.
As a certified Gallup Strengthsquest coach, Appreciative Inquiry consultant, and Leadership Challenge facilitator, Zack has had the opportunity to lead professional, organizational and leadership development efforts while also providing consulting and executive coaching services at organizations throughout the United States. These experiences inform his strengths-based approach when working with clients, as well as his commitment to finding and nurturing the talent within each of us.
Recently, Zack had the opportunity to pursue an “encore career”, continuing his passion for lifelong learning, growth, and development in a new arena. Enrolling in the MSW program at University of Houston, he took full advantage of the program by participating in a study abroad program. Through this program, he was able to learn about surveying mental health treatment in India, a Mental Health Advanced Practices focused learning track. Zack also particularly enjoyed immersing himself in classes with focuses such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, group therapy, brief, targeted interventions, children and adolescents, grief and bereavement, and suicidality. In practice, this knowledge base translates into an integrated model that meets the client’s unique needs and goals.
Zack also completed an internship at Menninger Clinic working in the subacute Adult Treatment Program where he provided addictions assessment and individual therapy; he also had the opportunity to facilitate psychoeducational groups for those experiencing substance use and co-occurring disorders. In addition, he provided Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills coaching.
In his free time, Zack enjoys travel, reading, exploring Texas art, and participating in volunteer work. He was recognized for his work with Child Advocates as the James A. Gwinn Outstanding Volunteer of the Year and has served on the boards of his local YMCA, Best Buddies of Texas and St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Houston.
