Our approach
Care shaped by depth,
delivered by a community.
At The Lovett Center, how we treat matters as much as what we treat. Our care is relationship-first, psychodynamically informed, and integrative, brought to you by a community of clinicians who practice, and think, together.
How we think about care
We look beneath the symptom,
then treat with what works.
Symptoms are the surface. Lasting change comes from understanding the patterns underneath them, and then using the methods proven to help.
Some treatment stops at the symptom: name it, manage it, move on. We start there, but we do not stop there. Drawing on a psychodynamic tradition, our clinicians help you understand the patterns and history underneath a problem, because the lasting benefit of psychodynamic therapy comes from exactly that kind of self-knowledge.
That depth is paired with method. The field offers many effective approaches to therapy, from cognitive behavioral work to EMDR, and we draw on whichever fits the person in front of us rather than forcing everyone through one protocol. It is a way of working our co-founder Robert Hilliker, PhD carried into Lovett from his training at the Menninger Clinic, and it still shapes how the whole team practices.
- Psychodynamic depth: understanding the why beneath the behavior
- Evidence-based methods, from CBT to EMDR, matched to you
- One plan that fits your life, not a fixed protocol
What actually makes therapy work
Four things drive change.
We build care around all four.
Across decades of practice, the same handful of factors show up wherever therapy succeeds, regardless of the clinician or the method. We treat all four as the foundation of care, not the afterthought.
-
The relationship
A genuine, trusting bond with your clinician may be the single biggest driver of progress. We hire for it, and we protect it.
-
The right technique
What a skilled clinician actually does in the room, matched to your situation rather than pulled from a template, moves the work forward.
-
Restored hope
Part of the work is rebuilding the belief that things can change. Together you map where you have been and where you are headed.
-
Support beyond the room
Most of life happens outside of session. We help you build the relationships, routines, and skills that carry the change home.
A community of helping professionals
Many minds,
one team behind your care.
Lovett was built so clinicians practice together instead of in isolation. When your therapist can consult the colleague down the hall, you get the benefit of the whole bench.
The single most powerful ingredient in therapy is the relationship between you and your clinician, something decades of research on how psychotherapy works keeps confirming. A community model protects that. Because our clinicians share what they are learning and lean on each other's expertise, your therapist is never the only person thinking about your care.
It is the idea The Lovett Center was founded on in 2014: gather strong clinicians under one roof, and the people who come to us get more connected, more thoughtful care. That same depth runs through every level of care we offer, from a first therapy session to intensive day support.
- Clinicians who consult one another on real cases, not in silos
- 25+ specialists across mental health and addiction, under one roof
- Decisions about your care made with you, never for you
