Privacy Policy

We are committed to protecting the privacy of the people we serve. This policy explains what we collect through this website, how we use and safeguard it, and the rights you have.

Last updated: July 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how The Lovett Center in Houston collects, uses, and protects information through this website. It also explains how we handle Protected Health Information under federal and Texas law. By using this website, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

We collect information in two ways: information you give us directly, and information gathered automatically as you use the site.

Information you provide

  • Contact and admissions details you share through our forms, by phone, or by email, such as your name, phone number, email address, and a description of the care you are seeking.
  • Insurance information you provide when you ask us to verify your benefits.
  • Any other information you choose to include in a message to us.

Information collected automatically

  • Standard technical data such as your browser type, device, and the pages you view, collected through cookies and similar technologies to help the site work and to understand how it is used.
  • You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not function as intended if cookies are turned off.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your questions and help you begin care.
  • Verify insurance benefits when you ask us to.
  • Coordinate treatment and services.
  • Improve this website and our communications.
  • Meet our legal, regulatory, and quality obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

Text messaging

  • Mobile number data: When you provide your mobile number, we use it solely to send the transactional SMS messages you have agreed to receive. Mobile numbers and SMS opt-in information collected for text messaging are not shared with third parties for their marketing.
  • Message frequency: You may receive a varying number of messages depending on your engagement with our services, generally up to 5 messages per month unless otherwise specified.
  • Message and data rates: Message and data rates may apply, based on your mobile plan. We are not responsible for those carrier charges.
  • Opting out: You can stop messages at any time by replying STOP, and reply HELP for assistance.

Protected Health Information and HIPAA

If you become a client, the health information we create and maintain about you is Protected Health Information (PHI) under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Because we provide mental health and substance use services, your records may also be protected by the federal confidentiality regulations at 42 C.F.R. Part 2, which give added protection to information about alcohol and drug treatment.

We use and disclose PHI to provide and coordinate your treatment, to obtain payment for services, and to carry out our healthcare operations. We will not use or disclose psychotherapy notes, use your information for marketing, or sell your PHI without your written authorization, except as permitted or required by law.

This summary does not replace our Notice of Privacy Practices, which describes in full how your health information may be used and disclosed and the rights you have. We provide the Notice of Privacy Practices at the start of care, and you may request a copy at any time.

Your privacy rights

Under federal and Texas law, you have the right to:

  • Request restrictions on how we use or disclose your PHI.
  • Ask that we communicate with you in a specific way or at a specific location.
  • Inspect and receive a copy of your health records, including in electronic form where available.
  • Request a paper copy of our Notice of Privacy Practices.
  • Request a correction or amendment to your records.
  • Receive an accounting of certain disclosures of your PHI.
  • Be notified in the event of a breach that affects your unsecured PHI.
  • File a complaint if you believe your privacy rights have been violated, without penalty.

You may file a complaint with our Privacy Officer using the contact information below, or with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, or the applicable Texas licensing board. You will not be penalized for filing a complaint.

How we protect your information

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. Client records are kept in a HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based record system provided by a third party with whom we maintain a Business Associate Agreement, which legally obligates that provider to protect your records from unauthorized use or disclosure.
