About
Nearly two decades
in addiction counseling.
Ernest Patterson is a Senior Clinician and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor who has worked in the field of addiction for about 19 years, walking alongside the individuals who struggle with the disease of addiction and the family members who carry it with them. He earned both his undergraduate degree in Business Management and his Master of Science in Addiction Counseling from Grand Canyon University.
At The Lovett Center, Ernest pairs education with relapse prevention, intervention, and hands-on treatment. Working with teams of clinical professionals and through community and volunteer opportunities, he has helped design proven treatment programs with successful results. His work has been recognized twice, with the Houston Chapter TAAP Counselor of the Year award in 2012 and the Elves Smith Counselor of the Year of Texas award in 2015.
Outside the clinical field, Ernest belongs to The Mankind Project, a men’s organization where he serves as a Full Leader, creating space for men to transform their lives. Sports shaped much of his earlier life: a full basketball scholarship took him to New Mexico State University, the Chicago Bulls drafted him into the NBA in 1983, and he went on to play professionally in Brazil for 13 years, where he learned to speak Portuguese.
