Who this is for
Many LGBTQ adults have learned to explain themselves before they can get help. Here, you do not have to.
The higher rates of anxiety, depression, and substance use in LGBTQ communities are not caused by who you are. They are driven by minority stress: the long grind of discrimination, rejection, and having to stay on guard. Affirming care starts by naming that, rather than asking you to.
That framing is well established. The American Psychological Association explains how sexual orientation and identity relate to mental health, and SAMHSA keeps a plain hub on behavioral health for the LGBTQI+ community. At The Lovett Center, that understanding is built into the room, so the work can start with what brought you in.
What makes it fit
The same clinical depth as the rest of Lovett, shaped to the realities LGBTQ adults actually carry.
You should not have to come out to your clinician before you can do the work. Here, your identity is assumed and respected from the first conversation, so the time goes to what brought you in.
Our team includes clinicians experienced with LGBTQ adults and the specific terrain of coming out, transition, and family. You are not responsible for educating the person treating you.
Meet the teamDiscrimination, rejection, and the daily weight of being on guard leave a real mark. We treat the anxiety, depression, and trauma that grow from it, rather than pretending the stress is not there.
Trauma and PTSD careA facilitated group of people who get it: coming out, gender, family, relationships, and recovery, worked through in a confidential space where you are not the only one in the room.
How group therapy worksWhen shame or minority stress feed substance use, recovery has to hold both. We treat co-occurring mental health and substance use in one place, in a queer-affirming setting.
Dual diagnosis careIn person in Montrose or by secure video anywhere in Texas, with daytime and evening options, so care fits your job, your school, and your chosen family instead of replacing them.

Common questions
LGBTQ-affirming care is treatment that takes your sexual orientation and gender identity as a given and a strength, not a problem to explain or fix. At The Lovett Center it means clinicians who understand minority stress, coming out, transition, and family, and who build your care around who you are. For us it is a program, not an accommodation.
See all our specialtiesYes. LGBTQ group therapy is a facilitated group where people work through coming out, gender, family, relationships, and recovery together, in a confidential and affirming space. It runs alongside individual therapy and our outpatient programs, so you can do the personal work and the shared work at once.
How group therapy worksYou do not have to come out to your clinician or justify your identity before the work can start. Affirming care assumes respect from the first session, names the minority stress that drives so much LGBTQ anxiety, depression, and substance use, and treats the whole picture instead of handing your identity off as a side issue.
Anxiety and depression careYes. We provide affirming mental health and substance use care for transgender and nonbinary adults, including support around social transition, family, and the stress of navigating unsafe spaces. The Lovett Center is an outpatient behavioral health center, so we are not a medical or surgical transition provider, but we support the mental-health side of your journey and coordinate with the providers who handle the rest.
What the first visit is likeBoth. You can come in person to our Montrose office or meet by secure video anywhere in Texas, with daytime and evening options. Affirming care should not depend on living nearby or feeling safe traveling, so we built it to reach you either way.
Our Montrose officeIt is for LGBTQ adults seeking mental health or addiction care, or both, whether you are in crisis, between hard seasons, or finally ready to face something you have carried for years. You do not need a diagnosis to start. Lovett also offers a broader adult outpatient track if you want to begin there.
