Ellie Hemmat

Ellie Hemmat is a licensed professional counselor and the IOP Program Director at The Lovett Center, certified in trauma, anxiety, and personality disorders. Research first drew her to psychology, but during an internship with the Children and Adolescent Behavioral Services unit at the Lake County Health Department, she discovered that working directly with patients was just as much a passion. There she provided a range of therapeutic services, including assessments, diagnostic evaluations, legal advocacy, and individual, group, and family therapy.

Ellie earned her bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Houston and completed a Master’s in Clinical Psychology in 2012. Before joining Lovett, she served as a clinical case manager and permanent housing navigator for a homeless service agency, helping Houstonians living with mental illness find both appropriate shelter and treatment. She later worked at a psychiatric hospital as a clinical therapist across its inpatient and outpatient programs, providing group, individual, and family therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. As IOP Program Director, she leads Lovett’s intensive outpatient care alongside the program’s clinical leadership, including IOP Medical Director Dr. Michael Sprintz.

Ellie feels privileged to be the person her clients feel comfortable opening up to, and she is honored to serve as a sounding board for their troubles and to help guide them toward wellness and success, whatever that means for them. She offers compassion, humor, and a safe space, and she describes it as a special gift to be part of a client’s healing journey, trusted with their secrets, struggles, and successes. She is a current member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Counseling Association (ACA).
